When hooked up battery the horn started blowing, and I unlocked the car doors with old key and that took care of that problem disabling the alarm. But when I try to start the vehicle with the new key it acts like it's turning over but I assume it's not reading the right code or whatever and the theft deterrent module is shutting off the fuel injectors. What do I need to do to get this vehicle running??? Also, I do have a Snap-on MT2500 scanner and have heard that this will detect something?? Haven't had time to check that out yet. Does anyone know if the scanner can override anything to do with this? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.
I'm not sure why the column was replaced for not being able to get the key out of the ignition. That problem usually lies in either the floor shifter or the ignition cylinder itself.

Your key needs to be programmed to the vehicle. That's easy to do...if you do it in the proper sequence. It generally involves putting the old key in the ignition, turning to run without starting the car, back to off. Insert the new key in the ignition, key to run without starting the car, then off. You should now be able to start the car with the new key.

To the best of my knowledge, a 1999 car should not have a "PK3" key. I'm pretty sure that's for later models like 2004 and up, but I'm not at work to confirm this and that may be the problem. I'll try to remember to check it out when I get to work and confirm this. I'll also check to see if you can reprogram the key yourself or whether you'll need to get the car to the dealership.
