Hey guys. I've recently started hanging out with some kids from another local school who are into cars as much as I am and they all rock powerbass subs and sometimes their amps and even component speakers as well... Has anyone heard anything about this brand? And info? Currently I have some higher end pioneers so I'm guessing that powerbass is better?

Also in looking to "conform" to powerbass I found "brand new" 15s on Craigslist for cheaper than brand new 12s on amazon both being their "3xl" series which is their top series only problem is the 15s are 1000rms a piece and I have a 1200watt hifonics Brutus amp so at max I'd be able to do 600 rms to each running my amp on full power but that's bad on the amp so maybe I'd be able to do 500 to each? How low is too low when powering an amp? And any suggestions on good quality budget amps that I could use for the 15s? Or just buy another hifonics Brutus? (What you guys referred me to originally)

For starters powerbass is decent, but for the money better can be had for sure. There is no such thing as under powering a sub so your amp will work just fine until you can pick up a bigger one to use.

I'm a fan of the higher end pioneer stuff so I would personally say no powerbass comes anywhere near the higher end pioneer stuff. Especially the components.

Really? I have the Pioneer TS-W309D4 and all the powerbass I've heard sound better. They're usually the higher end powerbass though

All about the box. I can make a Sony xplod sub sound good in the right designed and built box.

And that pioneer is one of the lowest lines of subs pioneer makes.

Just remember this, What sounds good to you may not sound good to someone else and what sounds good to someone else may not be to your liking. So with that said it doesn't really matter which brand is better than the others, all that matters is, what you the person listening to the system the most enjoys listening to. So high end Pioneer may sound good to one may sound like crap to someone else. So my recommendation to anyone buying car audio is this. Go out and listen to as many different brands that you can and decide which one sounds best to your ear and not someone else. Oh other people may recommend certain brands over others, nothing wrong with that, just take their recommendations as suggestions and decide what is best for you, your budget and your listening tastes. Thanks for you participation.

I can get the one you listed for $60-$70 new. Pioneer is more SQ now than anything, components, amps, and decks. There subs are nowhere near the quality I remember. They use to be monsters.

A little yes. There SQ is still there tho. I can ramble for days about subs that get loud and sound good but it's all about picking something that suits what you want and building(or having someone build you) a box for it. It's a lot about the box.

True, but find me someone who isnt happy with the bass and then decides to crank up the gain...??!! Happens all too many times resulting sub failure.

So if you are under powering it and decide to up it you should gradually do it over like say a week?

Gain goes to 3/4 at the very most. When you crank it you send a clipped signal through the subs which hurts them.

this can vary. I had a re amp that would only go 1/2 without distorting, but my american bass would go 3/4 or a bit more. but yeah most ppl say 3/4 as a general guideline. I like to use a dd1 to set gains now. Nice to know for sure
