As far as I know its really not possible to do this without changing everything inside the car, wiring, bcm etc etc.

On the 97-03 cars, its not possible to switch from a knobs/slider HVAC to a digital HVAC because of the BCM and wiring, so I would just go with the same theory on the 04+.
