I looked for this question in past threads but, I either missed it or couldn't find it. I have a '99 GT and just bought a 98 GTP. My 99GT has a Bose stereo system, and my 98GTP does not. The '99 sounds 100% better than the '98. I put a stock CD player (w/equalizer) in the '98, and was wondering if I could switch out all the other components from my '99 (i.e. speakers, amps, any wiring)? If anyone has done this and has any insight to give me I'd really appreciate it! Thanks.

    Things you need.
    -Bose radio
    -All Speakers
    -Bose amp
-Wiring harness from front to back
-New rear deck cover so you can use the 4" speakers

Get an aftermarket radio and it will sound better then the bose would ever dream of.

agreed. would be too much of a hassle to switch over to bose IMO
1998 Grand Prix GTP Stock for now mods to come soon. Alpine 9885 head unit, 2 JLW3V2 10s, 2 Jensen 650x2 amps, and Tsunami wiring all the way around.

is the wiring harness is connected from front to back from the radio or power source for the amp? i have a cd player with the built in equilizer, if i run a small aftermarket amp and all new aftermarket speakers, will this be the equivalent to the bose system? i don't have a problem ripping apart my car with the bose system in it, but if i can get the same result from doing it aftermarket, i will. thanks guys.

Aftermarket is going to sound way better. Factory bose setup is only going to give you little above the regular setup.

cool. i'd like to use the stock stereo head unit, but would upgrading the speakers with an amp for the rear speakers sound better than the stock. maybe some nice JL audio speakers? i'm not into getting a boom box or band pass, i need the trunk space for golf clubs, etc..

Yes, It will sound better than stock, but the stock hu will hold you back some. It'll def be louder with the aftermarket amps. Sounds like you want more clarity than anything. Are you holding on to the factory hu because of the EQ?

that, and i like my steering wheel controls. i'm looking at replacing the speakers and poss. an amp for the rears. i see that the rears are 6x9 (i have a pair of blaupunkts out of my 69 camaro) and i looked at the other rears and i think they're 5 1/4" , but i'm not entirely sure. i'm looking for a little more clarity and a little more punch. any suggestions?

Isn't there a way to use the steering wheel controls with an aftermarket radio?

Yes, there is a interface that can be hooked up for aftermarket hu's with a remote. I believe grandprixstore has them with a list of hu's they're compatible with. And with an aftermarket deck and EQ, you can get a way better sound. If you want a little more punch from the 6X9's, get the baffle covers that go under them. Kinda puts them in a small enclosure. I beleive the other rear deck speakers are 4", but don't hold me to that. I haven't looked at them in a while.

Thanks! I've been on GPstore's website but never saw that. I think I'm going to get new speakers first (mine are beat and blown) then look into a head unit. I have a pioneer but i'd like to keep that in my 69 camaro. where have you seen those enclosures for 6x9 speakers? i have a pair that i'm going to put in and i'll put a new pair of 4" speakers in the rear. should i bother with the amp now or wait till i get a new hu?

If it were me, I'd wait until I got my hu. That way while the hu is being hooked up, the remote and rca's can be ran at the same time along with the power wire. That's just how I would do it. As for the baffles, any sound shop should be able to get them. As for a price, not sure.

thanks. i'll look into it this weekend. i have a few stereo shops in my area so i should be able to find something. if i hook up an amp, what power output should i look for? i'm just going to power the 6x9's, right? should i power the 4" or the 5 1/4" (door)? i'm not really knowledeable on stereo stuff, so i want to go into these shops with as much knowledge as i can. i appreciate all the help.

For mine, I have a 4ch 800 watt sony pushing my highs. The doors on the first 2 channels and the rears on the other 2. My amp also has the high, mid, and low filter on it. So if yours has that, I would run the doors and the 4's on 2 channels together on the high filter and the 6X9's on the other to on the mid filter and adjust your gains accordingly. If your amp doesn't have this, you can buy a crossover and do the same thing. Depends on how much money you want to put into it. But this is a basic set up to get you started. Can always add more later on.

Wait till you get the HU. Your sound quality can only be as good as the source its coming from
