    Hey guys,

Yesterday I installed a new stereo after having the factory stereo since I've purchased it. But I have two questions.

All is wonderful in the world of car audio now hah

    Except...

I followed a guide on this site mentioning I needed an add a fuse to power the deck itself. I did that, ran the wire but now I have to manually turn the stereo off when I turn my vehicle off. Thankfully it's not a huge inconvenience but I was curious where the "ignition slot" would be on the fuse box? I've tried several places and the stereo either A.) Won't turn on period. or B.) Will turn on without the key in the ignition.

Also, there were a couple wires left over after the install. (of course) And I cannot use my steering wheel volume control or track changing switches with the stereo. On the receiver I got there is an unused wire with a tag labelled "Steering wheel remote". But I am unsure what wire to use to connect to that.

Any help on these matters would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

you should have 1 wire thats for memory, (it needs constant power) and another for the main power that gets hooked up to a fuse that turns off when the car is off.

^^ Yep, sounds like you are connecting the red wire to a constant source. As for the steering wheel controls, did you get the steering wheel interface for an aftermarket HU? Try going to your "sunroof" fuse in your fuse panel, I've been told that it is a switched 12v on the 04+'s

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the fast reply! No, I didn't get the steering wheel interface. That probably explains it.

As for the power issue. I followed this link here for the wiring information:

2005 Pontiac Grand Prix Car Radio Install Instructions

    It states:
Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Orange
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Run a wire from the back of the radio to the steering column or fuse box for a switched powersource.

The wire harness had an orange wire for "battery" and the red wire for "12v". I connected the orange to the battery constant and the red to the 12v. I assume I must have flip flopped those around?

id check the fuse to where you put the accessory wire to, see if its constant power or not with a test light at the fuse box, or piggy back the radio fuse.

Yeah I used the same fuse slot where the radio fuse sits.

My conclusion is I flip flipped the wires.

I'll check it in a bit.

I just went out and tested the wiring. I tried flipping the wires around. (Orange to Red and Red to Yellow) but it wouldn't turn on at all. So I assume the wiring was correct in the first place.

So I checked out the fuse box and the add-a-fuse device I'm using has two fuse slots to place in it. They have two 20's in them. I noticed the original radio fuse is a 10. Does this matter? (sorry for my lack of electrical knowledge!)

I took the fuses out. No power. Put one fuse in. No Power. Put both fuses in. Power. But once again, it turns on when the car's key isn't in the ignition still.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

find a fuse like the sunroof or something you know dont come on when the cars off, and put the add a fuse in that fuse slot. test it with a test light first to make sure its off. and put a 10 fuse in the slot for the added power line to the radio.

I'll have to get some 10's. A little later. I'll keep you in the loop.

Thanks for all your help so far. It's much appreciated.

Sorry for the delay guys. Was a good weekend.

But yeah, I got two 10's. I put them in, placed the Add-a-fuse into the sunroof fuse slot (which I don't have a sunroof but there was a fuse I removed and replaced with the add a fuse.) and when I turned the car on, I heard 2 pops and the radio wouldn't turn on. I figured I blew the fuses but they were still intact. I then put it back in the radio fuse slot and the radio turned on again without the need for the key in the ignition.

So far with the Add-a-Fuse, I've put two 20's and two 10's in them but haven't had any luck.

    Any other suggestions?

Are you using a wire harness? If so, all power wires should match up between the harnesses. Red to Red, Yellow to Yellow. Not sure where the orange one is coming from.

The orange wire is usually an illumination wire so your radio will light up, and dim when the headlights turn on.
