Thread: which outlet is switched?? 98 grand prix gt

I tried searching very hard and couldn't find it..but I read somewhere that one of two 12v outlets (one under hvac control in center, the other in passenger side center wall(?)) is switched.
Both of them on mine are constantly on with the key out..and I'm wondering if it was the previous owner.

I'd like to have one switched.. any ideas??

I am not sure about the one in the ash tray, but the one on the side of the console is NOT switched. I leave my iPhone plugged into it and it charges with the car on or off.

Thanks.. does your ash tray jack goes off with the key??

I'll check this evening when I get home on both cars.

Ok, the outlet in the ash tray does not turn on when the car is off, but the one on the side of the console does, at least on my two cars. It is possible both the previous owners modified it to work that way, but I would doubt it.
