My 97 GTP's audio has been on the fritz the last few days. The audio has been going up and done as if its having issues outputting enough watts to drive the OEM system. My current GTP has the 8 speaker setup, no bose, no onstar. I'm looking at putting in a basic audio system. I'll be sticking with Pioneer components since I have a New set of 6x9's 5-way TS-A6994R that have been sitting. I'm not looking for an extremely loud system. In terms of volume, if I have my windows up, you'd barely hear any music playing. I'm considering getting an amp, but am not entirely sure on which one I should get and am open to suggestion. I may also contemplate putting a sub in my rear decklid, but I'll need to measure and see how big of one I can fit. I will NOT be using a sub box with subs in my trunk. I frequently use my trunk and am not willing to sacrifice the space. How well do you think the headunit will power the speakers (no sub) without an amplifier?

    Parts I'm probably picking up

Buy a four channel amp that'll do ~50 WRMS at 4 ohms per channel.

If you're not going to put the subs in boxes I'd suggest living without them.

I would recommend just getting an 8" sub. It wont take up to much space and gives alot of pounding when wanted lol. Its just a pain to take of your dash, hook up the headunit, put it back just to do it all over again to hook up a sub. All the speakers and the headunit and hooking up a sub would be a one day job but well worth it. trust me. Oh and with the amp lol.

Save yourself the money and don't buy subs if your not going to put them into a box. Honestly, if you want quality sound, you can get a single 10 in box that will not take up a lot of space in trunk.
