I would avoid pioneers if you are trying to play a dvd while driving or use it to feed other monitors in the car because of a toggle switch that you would have to install to get it to play...
I like to go with Kenwoods because all you have to do is ground the parking wire and it works...
as far as cheap electronics go I would most def stick to Dual and Lanzar they are some pretty good brands not thigh end stuff but they shouldn't break if cared for...

The suggestion for Eclipse is a good one. But Pioneer's higher end stuff isnt junk either. Just because its sold in walmart doesnt mean they dont make some pretty good stuff. Like the no longer available DEH-800PRS and DEH-880PRS, along with the DEH-P99RS. Those 3 head units are considered some of the best in the SQ world.. And guess who they are made by? Pioneer...

Now, Im not saying the linked version is there higher end stuff, but just wanted to point out they have some decent stuff out there.

so what about the new pioneer avh-p1400dvd? its pretty high end. as far as the bypass go you dont have to install a toggle switch you could just install a 12v relay for like $5
