I would go with PAC or peripherial myself. Keep in mind on most aftermarket high output alternators that they don't charge at idle (as in they shut down) I used to compete, and we had to bring the idle up to 1200 rpm's to get any output from them

Sorry, yeah I should have been a little clearer. I swapped out everything. But the main thing, was that the shop didnt know if the $15 harness listed for a car without bose/onstar would mate up to the factory harness plug end for a car with those things. It did. They were unsure because they just had a listing for the $100 item mentioned earlier and said the ends could be different. Anyone that ever had bose in a GP just got the "proper" kit in their experience. Thats great if you want to try to keep everything original as possible in regards to warning sounds, but I'm sure glad I dont have that "dinging" when the doors are open now :)
On a side note, I kinda miss the steering wheel controls too going aftermarket because I'll forget and try to use them. But its a worth while trade off. Steering wheel controls can be restored, but I'm not concerned.
ok so here is the deal, if you dont mind losing onstar, chimes, and rap (the system that keeps the radio on until you open the door) and at the time steering wheel controls, then get the 20 dollar harness. All you have to do is a jumper wire from the remote turn on wire on the new plug to the pink wire on the small factory black plug that is not used anymore.
As far as brands you should stay away from, I really wouldn't deviate too far from these 4 main companies. They are in order of what I like and what I find works best all the time 1)Metra 2)peripheral/Stinger/best kits 3)Pac 4)Scosche(just stay away from their mounting kits, about 60% of them are blemished or just slightly off)
I have heard and I really do believe pac is made by Peripheral (AAMP) , both have the same cases, and similar part #'s and similar packaging/labeling.

Whoever told you that, or built your alternators didn't know what they were doing. Almost all aftermarket h/o alts put out at least stock numbers at idle, some are slightly lower than stock and some are higher than stock, but they do at least charge. The reason why you raised the "idle" to 1200 is because that is usually right around cruising rpm, and h/o alts are designed to put out the big power at cruising speed.
Look at these eBay Store - Alternator: High amp: iraggi, factory replacement, this guy is who 50% of pro sound off competitors use currently, and I used him when I was competing with my silverado's in the pro unlimited class the past 8 years.
Sorry guys no pics of that because 1 it wasn't pretty and 2 the box at the time was pretty much a classified design.
I got mine from Pheonix Gold, and they always said they need to up the revs to turn on (keep in mind a stock alternator doesn't reach full output until about 1500 rpm's which is why underdrive pulleys kill voltage output) I retired in '96, but still deal with the stuff constantly. Pac and periphrial are not in any way related (I was a rep for periphrial at one time)
thats cool if you say you were a rep and they are not related, I will take your word for it. were you a stinger or best kits rep also?
Pac or peripheral need to sue one another or something, because their part numbers on 65% of their stuff is the same. Also look the same w/ just a diff company on the sticker.
So i'm not sober enough to deal with the above... but I just got some Infinity Reference 9622i 6"x9" 2-way Speakers and some Infinity Reference 5012i 5-1/4" 2-way Speakers with a ****load of 16 guage wiring... anybody have opinions?
nice speakers running off of deck power, they will sound good.
