Thread: picking the right amp?

I'm sorry. It's just a suggestion. I've had great luck with infinity but there are many other great amplifiers as well out there. After reading the manual for the ref1300a it outputs 300w rms and 342w dynamic power, or peak power. These are perfect numbers for your subs.

I've been through this before. Power matching sounds sensible, but you'll be better off getting an amp that puts out 100-200 more watts RMS, and then tuning it properly. Most people have the tendency to say "oh hey my subs and amp match power, i'll crank them all the way up, that should work." On the other hand, not all units produce what they say they do. If you get a multi-meter and tune it, you can get a pretty accurate idea of what you're putting out and safely give the subs the power they need.

I'm running 4 kicker comps that take 150rms each as well, on a single 1000w RMS monoblock d class amp. 150x4 = 600, i have 400 watts there that are not being used, BUT i have my setup tuned properly. Before that I had 2 of those subs and a 300w RMS amp and the amp just **** on me.

I would honestly get a little bit more amp than you need. If you have to turn your amp past 3/4 gain you need a bigger amp. It's always best to have more power than need vs not enough.

Agreed. I got my D Class monoblock for 120. Never gets hot. Ever. 1000w rms. That's awesome imo.

Comps, as in 12 inch subs. I'm working on a fresh box. I'll have pics in maybe a week or so.

300watts RMS means that's a constant power you need. Peak does not = Constant.

That's what I have, but I just have the 1000.1D. 500 less watts RMS. Good solid amp for being a cheapy, as I said, the ***** doesn't get hot at all.

I've never heard anyone complain about the Hi-Fonics amps. I know alot of people that run the "Brutus" series.

The Brutus series is a great, higher end series as well. I've had issues with Power Acoustik amps which are also Maxxsonics amps, but the Hifonics series, even their "low end" HiFi series is great. Serious, I love mine.

thanks for the input guys! and im thinking that it makes a lot of sense to not put it on full blast because its a lot more stress on an amp to work at full power than half and so ill look into some of those amps. if you havent noticed i can be kinda slow.. haha. but yes thank you guys a lot for the help!

EDIT: what others are good brands? hows JVC? and you said power acousik is terrible?

JVC, stay away. I personally had a bad experience with a power acoustik amp, but they're made by the same people that make Hifonics... the low end **** is well... ****, though.

Lol JVC headunits are for "cheap-getting-the-job-done" and such. I would never recommend one to someone that can afford a real headunit. 7-color changing lights don't make them "good" at all. :P

Having an opinion is ok but you should provide input as to why it might "too much". At 4ohms it produces 500 watts. He can easily wire his subs for 8ohm and that amplifier would last pretty much forever, including upgrades or changes. Good price for what it is too
