my girlfriend has a 06GP. i am looking for a ipod kit that will retain the steering wheel controls and work with the ipod. we will be keeping the stock radio. the car has the band button (xm not activated or installed in car). the car does have onstar installed and is active (and we would like to keep it that way)

the local shops will install kits for me, but they have no clue about the SWC compatibility. im not gonna drop money on a kit and have it not work properly. i plan to install myself also.

You should just need this Pac-Audio.com Product Details | iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future

That should keep the steering wheel functions since it appears to be antenna based.

check out Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, LCD TV, Digital Cameras, they got something there that will plug into the aux port on the back of the radio, i dont think it will affect the swc's.

the radio probably wont change the i pod songs, you will have to do that from the i pod.

    What Scottydoggs said.

If you want something to change the songs on the ipod you're going to have to upgrade the head unit to something Ipod compatable via ipod cable not headphone jack.

That would be why Grand Prix IS NOT listed on the vehicle application list.

SWC and onstar both just take special harnesses.

Check crutchfield.com for headunit compatabilitiy then shop around online for better prices after you find one you like.

Find what you need on crutchfield, then look for a lower price on Amazon.

    crutchfield id warning me
If you replace the factory radio you will lose the calendar function of the driver information center.
what calendar are they talking about? the time, date and day screen?

Thats correct. The fix for that is a crazy expensive wiring harness, and I don't think it even retains all of it.

I used a metra 97-2003 on my 04 and lost door chimes, date, time and day settings. Its not a huge deal to most people since that harness is $20 vs the $150-200 I was quoted on the other one.
