    I've got a 96 SE with a stock-ish stereo that I'm swapping for a Sony xplod deck. I bought the wiring harness for my car but am left with two unused wires

    - blue w/ white stripe from the stereo - amp wire...AFAIK my car doesn't have one? at least this harness does not have a corresponding blue w/ white stripe...the only unused wire is;

    - orange wire coming from the car half of the wiring harness - labeled dash illumination, and there is no such wire on the xplod

    do i just cut them short, tape them off, and jam this head unit in there? i know the head unit won't dim with the rest of the dash lights but i don't particularly care about that, i'm mostly concerned w/ the amp wire. don't most cars have at least a small factory amp?

    will the wire for a factory amp greet me when i pull the stock head unit?

    The blue wire is for turning on an external amp for subs or speakers..you dont need to do anything with it. Just make sure its not gonna short on something.

    You already know what the orange one is for.

    Is it possible to rig up the steering wheel controls? The deck claims it can operate with this function, but I've got no idea which of the 13 wires in the harness could be responsible for it, if there are any.

    You need an adapter like this one...maybe not that exact one but one like it. Just go onto crutchfield and enter your car info and itll tell you what one you need.

    Mine don't work. The wires for the clockspring inside the wheel got ripped so they don't work.

    I've got some nice non-functional steering wheel controls now, and a pretty new deck that works just great.
