Hey im just wondering what is going to happen when i try to take the stock radio out of my 2000 Grand Prix. Ive heard that the radio itself just locks up but ive also heard that your car itself wont start right. Anyone know for sure?

IIRC you will lose some of your DIC functions but I am not sure about the pre 03-

I'm new to the Grand Prix (only owned it for a couple weeks) so call me stupid ... but what is HUD and what are the "functions"?

HUD stands for heads up display. It puts your speed up on the windshield as well as what way your signaling, the radio station your on, and if you have a tape in. Im sure theres a couple more things that it displays but thats all ive seen on my 2000 Grand Prix.

If you don't know what Heads up display is, you probably don't have it and have nothing to worry about. Your car will run fine without a radio.

it also displays different dummy lights such as low fuel. i love my HUD.

i wonder though, if you remove the radio, surely all the functions come back when you put stock radio back in...right?

Brandon, they were mentioning things on the HUD you would lose by removing the stock radio, not just what the HUD shows, and yes, everything radio based returns when you plug a factory radio back in.

There was a question in the original post about the radio being locked. As long as you put it back in the same car, it won't lock. As long as it's a 97-03 there is a method to unlock factory radios if necessary.

Thanks ... I kind of thought thats what it meant but couldn't believe they had that in cars. Mine doesn't have it ... as you all could guess. Thanks for the info!
