I would like to be able to disable the auto on lights in my car, '97 GP GT. I do not have DRL, just the auto ons. I have checked out this website for directions and just want a little clarification on something. Refer to the first picture on the right......

    Headlamp Control

I'm assuming that you have to take out the oblong shaped part on the dash, close to the center of the windshield, where the little sensor is and then just plug the fuse-looking resistor into something on the bottom of that part? I haven't yet pulled this part, just trying to see if it's something that I could do myself first. Electronic stuff isn't my high point...lol. Anyway, if that's basically how I do it, then where would I buy something like the resistor? Radio shack? What do I ask for, a "fixed 470-Ohm resistor"? Should I take the pic of said resistor along with me and show them what I need?

And how do I get that part out of the dash...pry it up carefully with a screwdriver or what? Thanks in advance...

    Nancy

Really? It's that easy? I think I read somewhere that just pulling a fuse related to the auto ons may cause the check engine light to come on......is that true or can I just pull the fuse and be good to go? Where is this fuse located? I'm assuming that it may be one of the bigger fuses in the engine compartment fuse box?

Sounds like this is the fix....will attempt to find the fuse later, will report back either way.

I would, IF I had a manual...lol. Bought it used and it didn't have one. Been busy this afternoon, but hopefully will be able to get to it later this evening.....

if you have drls and pull the diode connector thing in the dash to disable them and then if you pull the drl fuse, would that disable the auto lights also?..and another thing would disabling the auto lights, also keep the lights from flashing when you lock and unlock the doors?..because im trying to do that also but cant figure it out

Pulling the drl just disables the drl's. The fuse for the auto lights only works on certain years. I want to say that 01+ have issues with pulling the fuse to disable the auto lights. Disabling the auto lights does not disable the headlights from flashing. The manaul has the procedure to set up the alarm system. Or based on a certain year you could wire the headlight flash to the corner lights.
