I'm stuck on this simple audio project and need your help!

I bought the designated auxiliary adapter for my '04 Grand Prix GTP, stock 6-disc cd-changer monsoon ("XM ready" not equipped) stereo system.
    it looks like this:
    http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0015_large.jpg

I've bought and installed these two items:

The Precision Interface Electronics GM12-AUXv2 adapter:
Precision Interface Electronics GM12-AUXv2 Connect a portable music player, satellite radio tuner, or DVD player to your factory GM receiver at Crutchfield.com

Dash Mount 3.5mm(F) to 3.5mm(M) Stereo Audio Interconnect:
Amazon.com: PAC iSimple Dash Mount 3.5mm(F) to 3.5mm(M) Stereo Audio Interconnect IS335: Electronics

The directions that came with the AUX Adapter tell me to press the band button til XM1 or XM2 or Aux popup on the screen (and my mp3s should work) but those options never popup, just AM, FM1, FM2, do.
So, I am basically lost from there and not sure how to select the auxiliary audio with my stereo system.

    Any ideas?

Amazing...the search feature actually works on this site.

I am looking for a Mother's Day gift for my mother, and thought about this. She also has a 2004 Grand Prix GT with the same stereo. I registered here to ask if the Precision Interface Electronics GM12-AUXv2 would be the correct adapter to add an aux input to her stereo. But, this thread raises another question. Her car originally had the XM...a 3 month subscription was given to her when she purchased the car, but she did not renew it and therefore does not currently use it. Can I assume I will still be able to use this adapter? I am not concerned about the possibility of losing the XM ability...just want to make sure it will work before I order, since I will only have one shot to install it for her. I suspect that if it will work, I will not have the same issue as Merlin since the XM options do still come up for her (don't remember if an Aux option comes up).

you wont lose the xm radio, and no it doesnt have to be active for the interface to work, you should be fine
