what kind of amp are you running and what size fuse? also are you talking about the amps fuse or the fuse up by the battery?

my first guess is going be something is wrong with your wiring and its grounding out.

edit: ninjas are lurking about it seems.

Also, if the fuse doesnt blow immediately after putting it in, then the wire isnt shorting.

You should be at a 60A fuse. And Ive never seen a maxi fuse for a 4 gauge wire. Upgrade to at least an AGU fuse. But I would go with an ANL style fuse because the holders are better.

Oh and one more thing, does your amp have a protect light? If it doesnt, I would check the impedance of your sub(s). If it's voice coils is blown or the tinsel lead is torn off, the impedance will be 0 ohms and if your amp doesnt have a protection circuit, it will blow the fuse.

Interesting, I had a T1500 Power series Rockford amp in my 97 GT, untill I ran a 4 Gauge wire from the alt. strait to the battery the only problem I ever had was lights dimming during heavy bass. Just my .02

Then its not your subs causing the issue. Basically, if you're power line has a short...your fuse will blow the instant you put it in. If the fuse only blows after you turn the car on, you're looking at a bad amp or too low amperage fuse. If the fuse blows, at even low volume, I'd return that amp.

Just another opinion, but I want to say the grounds may be the issue, i.e. amp, battery, chassis, engine. I installed a 800w alpine in a 01 neon for a friend 2 nights ago with no issue. I made sure with a test light that my grounds were good. IMHO Also we used a 1200w kit from Walmart.

Ok, then you have no major issues, you're just drawing more current through your power wire than that fuse can handle. At 800W and your cars 14.4 volts. It requires at least a 56A fuse. But you wont find a 56A fuse so jump to 60A. Your power wire is good up to 150A max. I would put in a 125A fuse, but you wont find a 125A maxi fuse. You'll have to bump up to an AGU or ANL.

Yeah, but I bet the fuse was a lot bigger than a 50A maxi fuse. That should have come with at least an 80A fuse.

if it works for a couple of days then blows, i would suggest getting a new wiring kit and start over. I mean it has to be some cheap @ss wiring kit if it has 4gauge wire and a 50amp maxi fuse.

Yeah, you can go up to a 150A fuse. I like to stay below the max rating for a wire, so I usually stick with 125A on a 4 awg wire. If 125A isnt enough, I bump up to a 2awg or 0/1 awg wire.

LOL true, I told my friend to get a kit that would handle his amp, guess it worked out fine. I have a somewhat walmart kit in my GTP, only thing is that my amp ground wire is a 4 gauge wire LOL. Also as I did in my 97GT I ran a 4 gauge wire from the back of the Alt. to the battery, like how my lights don't dim and my windows roll up faster.
