I wired mine through the XM Radio and mounted the jack next to center HVAC Vent. I'm cheap and the how-to seemed easy enough.

he has a 2000 i dont think xm excited at the time. i believe the pac radio thing only allows a playlist style of play and is not ideal. youll probably have to go with an aftermarket HU

    Not quite.

There are wire harness accessories that will introduce secondary RCA inputs for the factory radios. Not to be a jerk, but I'm not in the mood to figure out the exact harness.

The issue is that some harness are activated through IR. If you acquire a head unit that allows a direct plug-in for the programmed device vs. line of sight IR then it works much better. Otherwise, you need to make certain that the transmitter and receiver are within a certain proximity and lined up correctly.

I know my Alpine 9887 allowed direct plug in for PAC swi-x or something rather. I believe my current pioneer does as well

no i dont think so with on-star. there is a way to make on-star into a bluetooth system though.

programming the steering wheel controls is easy, i had the same misconception for years then i finally did it. the instructions make it sound a little confusing. its a 3 wire hook up, and then you push the button on the controller, then on the remote or the HU is you dont have a remote, then the steering wheel button, lights flash and its programmed. you have to do every button on the steering wheel but you can make them do whatever function you want. you only have to do it once, my battery was dead all winter and saved all the programming so i didnt have to do it again.

ive also heard that there is a wiring harness that plugs right in but im not sure where to get it. and you still have to do the programming.
