    Hello, first post!

I have a base 08 grand prix with a monsoon stereo system and an 8 cd changer. I would like to know if I can get in back of the stock deck and get a 3.5mm auxillary cable back there to hook my iPod up and stop using the trashy FM transmitter. Pictures would be HEAVILY appreciated.

    Thanks

Is there a hookup in the back of the monsoon system?

From the factory, no. You will need an aftermarket adapter. And taking apart the center stack is stupid easy. The trim piece just pops off, and everything else is held in with a few screws. There is really no way to mess it up. You can use that FM transmitter, but it will sound like crap as they all do. I don't know how well the monsoon system accepts an aftermarket stereo, but that's the route I'd go. Cheaper in the long run.

So you want a aux input (3.5mm stereo plug), or an ipod interface so you can control and charge your ipod/iphone from the radio?
Both can be done and is plug and play but it its very vehicle specific. So you have the in-dash changer... do you have XM?

for a 3.5mm there are 2 options, a FM modulator (which requires a bit of wiring but is cheaper (around $35), you would have to tune to a specific station but it is hardwired to your antenna, so the sound quality is great.
Or you can do a Auxiliary input converter, which is simply plug and play. I just put one in my buddies '04 explorer and it was super easy and works great.
If you want just a 3.5mm jack and would like something that is plug and play, this is your best choice.

If you want the ipod interface (control and charge your iphone from the radio) we need specifics.
Do you have XM? Do you use XM if you have it? Do you have a CD/Aux button on the radio?

    I have XM.

    No, I don't use it.

I have both a CD and aux button on the deck.

All I want is a 3.5mm cord going from the deck to my iPod. I already have a cigarette lighter input charger for it.
