Ok, I have installed several alarm systems in earlier model gm cars and trucks (pre 1995) and I am going to do an install on my 1998 GP. The car has factory keyless entry but I also want remote start and alarm. I can do the install but im unclear if the car requires the passlock module. Can anyone give me any info on this? I have searched to boards but havent found anything. If I do need the module, does anyone have a good suggstion on a brand to get? Thanks in advance guys.

Doesn't require a passlock because it's a VATs car til probably 2001 (Regals changed 2001). You may find VATs wiring under the column with a nice connector and or go directly to the bcm pins. I unplugged the connector to the column (vats only, nice huH?) and then tossed the resistor directly onto the bcm wires. Anyone stealing a Buick Regal with an alarm is pretty hard up for transportation...lol

Which resistor did you use for your set up?

The correct value that matches within 5% to the value in your key resistor.

That black thing with the metal in it ... the metal is a resistor.

My key doesn't have that. I know what part you are refering to. Maybe th 1998 cars had neither.

98 cars had it... at least bonnevilles, regals and park aves. I can't see the GP being the odd car out.

My keys don't have the little plastic square with the resistor in it. Maybe ill try the install without the resistor or module and see if it will work

Ok, for those interested, after some research I have found there is no passlock or vatts for the 1998 GP with no factory alarm. My car has keyless entry but no factory alarm. I will be getting started on my install next week an will do a write up for us 1998 guys
