I just installed an aftermarket radio in my car, and now none of my dash/steering wheel/window control lights work. Everything is functional, and my dome light and floor lighting work, including all the warning lights on my dash all work fine, but the speedo/tach, hvac, steering wheel, shifter, and door control illumination lights don't work. I'm assuming it's just a fuse or something, but does anyone know which one. I saw "steering wheel illumination" but I wouldn't think a 2 amp fuse would run all that. Does the orange illumination wire on the radio harness have to be wired to something? I can provide a pic to show if you need.

Did you use a factory harness adapter when you put it in?

Thank god. I would just check all the fuses in the fuse box first. Power probes are very handy.

also my dic and the lights for it still work. I checked all the fuses, the seem to be fine. I didn't use a power probe, so I'll try that tomorrow.

Check for power in and power out at each fuse.

    Pic to show what's happening

It's not fun driving home at night without being able to see how fast I'm going.

Stupid question, but did you make sure your light dimmer is set properly? I thought I screwed something up once, but it turned out it was just the dimmer fader turned down.

I figured it out, the orange illumination wire was grounding. Needed to tape it better

Ya I've got both, and the grand prix is a gt not a gtp, although I with it was a gtp. Couldn't find one in my price range with low enough miles.

seems you need to practice better splicing techniques.

If you're lazy you can wrap each wire separately then wrap them all so at least it doesn't look as messy and gives you a bit more protection.

it was more like I forgot to tape of the end of an unused wire. I didn't think it would give me any real trouble like that, plus I didn't have any electrical tape around at the time. Learn for your mistakes I guess. No big deal anyway, problem solved with no harm done.
