Buy a pair of BTL's yet?
Get the HiXmax coils and choose daily, not SPL and it'll sound pretty damn good.

BLT's? Na I dont like lettuce or tomato. I'm more of a Bacon and Egg kind of guy...
Fixed...
what can you get the W7 for and would you go for the 12" W7?
I'm doing up some graphs right now to show the difference..
All of these are shown with a low pass filter at 12 dB/octave centred at 80 Hz.
Ported:
And sealed:

I went with the Q after seeing just how much of an SPL driver the BTL really is as well as your other choice of the W7 which is more of a SQ woofer.
The cost of the Q is 244 shipped i believe, unless they started charging for shipping, not sure.
Well in that case the Q is a better choice then, what if I went with 2 Q10's?
I'd have to do that over again.
Doesn't take much time.
Want to go sealed or ported?
Do you like massive bass in your face or for it to sound roughly "right"?
Whats the maximum space you're willing to give up in your trunk?
Ya not a problem.
The question is then, why are you limiting yourself to a pair of tens if you're going sealed? Why not take advantage of the size of the trunk and go for a pair of sealed 12's?
Larger the cone, the less distance it has to move to produce the same sound level. The more it moves, the more distortion there is. Therefore the largest driver you can get away with is the best choice. Also more efficient with the power you feed them so you get more sound for your dollar and watt.
Just keep in mind, anything over a 12" and cone breakup goes up substantially.
Tho, I still loved the sound the EV 18's I had produced. There was just something effortless about them.
two 12's like matt said. In a quality made enclosure made to the specs to match the woofers.
Says you
besides,
cone breakup happens at all frequencies. a 15" driver will have plenty at 30Hz.
cone breakup is an issue with midrange speakers... in the area of 3-10 KHz.
Subs are directional above 100-150 Hz. So if you're crossing over at 80 Hz, thats dangerously close to too high.
40-50 Hz is a much better spot which gives you much more freedom in your sub location.
Heres a better question, how does a 15" sub have breakup at 30 Hz?
At 30 Hz, the entire cone is moving a large distance and all of the second and third harmonics are due to suspension and motor non-linearities, not the cone...
