The idea would be to use a single tweeter + mids in kick panels. The tweeter would be placed in the center of the dashboard. This would avoid those nasty side window reflections and attenuation bias from sitting next to the L-tweeter. Off the top of my head I would suggest using L-R instead of mono(L+R). L+R isn't exactly "perfect" mono but that's how we tend to use it.
Anyways, L-R cancels out common frequencies, eg center channel information, leaving you with extreme L and R signals playing through a single speaker.
If the mids crossed over beginning at 3khz+ and the tweets maintained ~5khz up to 20khz I think we would maintain enough information for a very nice setup. Not to mention optimum placement for PLD since the mids are in the kicks.
