I have a 2001 GTP coupe with Bose audio in it. Problem is the sound seems to jump around and I have hardly any bass in my car. What could this be? It does this for my xm/cd/radio... Should I just buy a new head unit?
It plays fine but is just annoying, the sound seems to come at a higher pitch sometimes from different speakers and its noticable.

Are you sure the speakers are good. Id start there before getting a new head unit.

hmm, yes, they make good sound still, but how could all of them go out at the same time??
I just figured I'd start with a good head unit over the factory one and work my way out. It'd be nice to have my xm and radio all in one.

Okay, I missed the 'all' of them part, guess its time for a trip to the eye doctor.
Do you know anyone that would allow you to try out their head unit so that you dont spend the money on one and it not be the issue?

I would say its the head unit, but don't the bose systems have an external amp?

I do believe they do, in the trunk, under the third brake light if I remember correctly.

but if that external amp was out, there wouldn't be sound???

not necessarily. there could be a loose connection or something, but its hard to say where it is coming from...from what you describe it almost has to be either the head unit or the amp. If there are connections on that amp, I would unplug them and check them out make sure they aren't loose, thats the easiest thing to do. Other than that, you would just have to swap something out to see if it helps.

I would definitely check the amp first. The Bose amp controls the bass signals to the 6x9s and the highs to the 4s. But either way definitely amp or HU.

-It almost has to be that! The highs fade in and out and I hardly have bass, at least I have way more bass in my SHO.

Not sure if yours has the same problem that mine did, but I smoke in my car and I only use the steering wheel controls.....my sound started going flaky about a year ago and I found that if I "clean the dust" off the knobs on the radio by turning each one back and forth, it corrected the issue.

I know I was having a problem with the volume jumping up to peak. Not a good thing, but I found that the corner of the tune buttons on the steering wheel was pushed in a little, I stuck my nail under it and pulled it back to place no more problems...
