Okay, so i finally have everything I need thanks to Ed Morad Now, I can finally attempted to switch from the boring analog DIC to the digital one in my 02 GT. I just want to know who on here has done this and followed the write up on here. Are there any tricks, or anything else I should know about doing this before i rip the dash apart?

I added one to my GT at the end of August. It took me about 3 hours to do the entire swap, but I took my time. First disconnect the battery. Remove the knee bolster (under the steering column,) then remove the dash bezel, and unplug the foglight switch.

Some people soldered the splices together, but I just used butt connectors. You will need to splice into a orange/black wire on the back of the radio harness, the dark green VSS wire on the back of the instrument cluster, and the tan wire from the Data Port Connector (where you plug in an OBD plug) I used splice connectors from the Auto parts store, it was easier than trying to strip casing off such a small sized wire. The VSS wire is the 2nd one in and its dark green on the tan colored plug on the instrument cluster.

I ran up the wire from the 3 spliced locations to the Analog connector. Pop out the analog DIC and cut out all the wires. Then just start butt connecting the analog and spliced wires you ran to the Digital plug. Heres the list I used to connect the wires.

Automotive Forums .com Car Chat - View Single Post - converting analog dic to digital drivers info center

Once the wires are all spliced, connect the battery, plug the connector into the Digital DIC, make sure everything works, and lights and dims like it should, then if it all works, snap the DIC into the spot on the dash, then put the bezel back on.

Heres some more pics and wiring diagrams from a site that I found.

I tried it tonight and I'm having some problems. I had also found both those links above and used them as a guide.

I bought the DIC off of ebay and I'm wondering if maybe I got a bad one.

I've checked and rechecked the connections to make sure they were right and tight but the screen is dim, very dim to the point you have to get really close to see what is on it. I can open the doors and see them (again if I get really close to the screen)open on the display. It lets me toggle through the different displays. All in all everything seems to work except the screen is dim.

I took the DIC apart and checked the light bulbs and all seems well in there too so thats why I wonder if I just got a bad unit.

Anyone have any advice on anything I might be missing?

Ok, I figured out my problem. It was me!

I took all the bulbs out of the DIC and replaced a few that were burned out. When I put them back in I turned them all the way until they stopped.

I checked the DIC with a multimeter to see if the bulbs were getting juice and they were. I rechecked the bulbs and noticed two of the ones I thought were good (not blackened) were also bad. So my DIC that I just got off ebay had all bad bulbs! My guess is the guy hooked it up wrong, popped the all the bulbs and thought it was junk. He sold it with the disclaimer he never tried to install it and didn't know if it would work so it was sold as is. I only had to bid $10.50 ($18.50 with shipping) to get it so I can't complain!

Anyway when I reinstalled the bulbs while I still had it taken apart and plugged into the harness I noticed if you turn them all the way they don't light. I backed it off and it light again. So I reinstalled all the bulbs turning them only to where they will light and now my DIC works!

well i recently bought a digital dic from ebay, it was a dic out of a 97 gt. i am trying to swap my analog dic to digital in my 98 grand prix gt. i hooked up the dic knowing that there is an issue with the 97 dic only working with a 97 grand prix. i wanted to test it myself. everything hooked up correctly reveals that in fact this is true. the information for the mpg, oil life, miles, etc flashes 0.0 on the screen. the doors and trunk ajar indicators work though. so now i am buying another digital dic from ebay that came out of a 2000 gt. i'm hoping it will work as it should. my question is to all the other folks that attempted this swap...when you hook it up and turn the car on, will the information automatically adjust and work correctly, do you have to reset the computer on the dic somehow, any info on this would be great, please let me know. i have my car torn apart for a while waiting for my other dic to arive. i did install a cheap oil pressure guage which was interesting, anyway i have a 97 digital dic that works just fine that i dont need anymore so if anyone is interested i paid 60 bucks for it and i want to sell it for a reasonable price. let me know.
