Right its unswitched because it has constant 12v power there is no switch in the circuit meaning it has constant power and the circuit never opens. only way that outlet looses power is if you blow the fuse. the only way to make that outlet work like you want is to put a switch into the circuit somewhere so that you can decide if its on or off or rewire it to a switched power source instead of its current source.

i know that speed i took my ASE electrical crap already haha my mind just went blank.. anyways i want to get some opinions with you guys... I dont think it will hurt anything since duh theres constant 12v power at my cig lighter i got the radar today ITS SWEEEET" i got the cobra off ebay for a steal!! anyways it has a built in volume adjustment knob and if you turn the knob all the way it turns the radar off.. so im thinking just say screw it and leave it always plugged in and just turn it on an off manually THIS WONT DRAIN MY BATTERY CORRECT?

LOL, thats when you use sotch locks and tape right? jk You are in an automotive course you should have a dmm use it. Find an accessory wire strip some of it and solder in the wires for your radar detector.

Well you can be lazy and leave it as it is and have it look ****ty or you can practice to work in a real shop and make **** look good and do it the right way.

Id say hardwire it, sry to break it to you but, the dial on the cobra radars break after a while. the one cobra I had caught fire...Imo cobra radars are garbage.

Ive never had a dial break but they frequently blow speakers. i never even used the speaker on mine i hooked up an external speaker and the speaker took a **** even when it wasnt being used. my dad has also blown the speaker in 2 of them. Im thinkin when mine really goes out completely im gonna get an escort or a beltronics or something. I want a valentine 1 but they r so expensive! I say just switch it off joe. thats what i do. hardwire prob looks a bit nicer but really its just a radar detector who cares.
