I'm an ultra noob when it comes to speakers and wattages. I just purchased a JVC HU and a pair of Clarion 90W RMS (450 peak) 6x9's. I'd like to push a little more power through the 6x9's, and I don't need much, so the cheaper the better.

I was actually fairly happy with the stock rear speaker (one was dead) as far as bass. I was expecting a boost with the new HU and speakers but they actually seem weaker than stock.

Can someone point me in the right direction? I really don't know what to look for.

Actually... I'd say the cheapest amp you can get that will put out 50 watts at 4 ohms assuming your speakers are 4 ohms nominal. Make sure its a decent brand so it actually works for a while.

Go to your local car parts store that carries car audio and see what they have for cheap. When I say cheap, I mean getting this Pioneer for $80: Pioneer GM 3300T - amplifier - Compare prices, reviews, user opinions - Shopper.com

The only thing you should be paying more money for would be more channels, crossover filters or power. All of which you don't need.

Sony audio products suck ass especially their head units and speakers I'd stay far away. Kennwood, rockford fosgate, or alpine.
Keep in mind when you're looking rockford fosgate tends to underrate their products, they're generally alot more powerful than they say they are.

when it comes to speakers, there are a lot better things than MTX out there... TC Sounds used to be pretty good, however they switched to the name AudioPluse then went under. You could try Acoustic Elegence, they sell low distortion mid to low Xmax drivers with fairly high sensitivities. In english: they're loud and sound good doing it.

Acoustic Elegance • View topic - Preliminary specs on new 6.5?

If he ever finishes it... In the mean time, look to pro audio drivers. They get ridiculously loud with less power and still sound good.

In the high end (meaning tweeters)... Seas, Peerless, Vifa all make decent speakers. Ideally you'd try something with a higher sensitivity like a ribbon tweeter but they're almost too fragile for the car environment.

the alpine mrp-300 4 channel would do you fine and you can bridge it down to 2 channel and i sell it all day long for 204.99 i think at best buy and you can get away with a 10 guage amp kit , its decent quality and they never die , but id put some killer door speakers cause our doors are great the way they are designed is great for sound quality and imaging ive got memphis m 50 in mine and they are clean and loud with only 75 rms going to them

Without a box I'll bet you can't even use your side view mirrors when the music gets going.
