I replaced my head unit about three months ago with some kind of alpine and now just yesterday when i was driving my car car i hear this one pop and i was like wtf was that? i keep driving and about the time i get home it started poping and the only way that i could get it to stop was to turn my cd player all the way down. is this a blown speaker or do you guys think i have something grounding out. i really dont know because as far as i can tell the speaker is still working but i didnt want to test it to much for fear of hurting something else even more. they are still the stock speakers in the car but i dont listen to loud music so i dont know how i could have blown it. what do you guys think it is??

i hav mtx speekers in the front of my gt..i amped them up and i heard a random popping every once in a while from the front speekers..i had my friend listen to them and he said it was the bass in the song that would cause the popping sound..sure enough i took the bass out of the speekers using the filter on the amp and i havnt heard the popping sound since..

so if u dont hav an amp..try turning the bass down on ur deck's equilizer..if the popping goes away then its the bass in the songs that is causing it.

im not sure if ur deck has it..but u can also take the bass out of the music by using a high pass filter on ur deck (if it has one)

    hope this helps

Is it a noticeable pop that runs with the beat? If so, blown speaker. Turning the volume up and clipping your signal = easily blown speaker.

A "blown" speaker doesn't mean it was too loud and blew up. It means the coil inside was receiving a dirty signal. In between notes the coil is "resting" and releases it's heat from the electrical input. If it's receiving a dirty signal or static then it never gets that rest period. The end result is an over-heating coil that loses it's proper shape. If it loses shape then the acoustic properties change....you might end up with "popping" instead of bass.
