ha the article said the power will be robbed by the air conditioner...since when did they run on electricity....never...

just get a HO alt they are not that expensive...dont waste your money on caps, batteries, and other bull shyt solve it from the source and upgrade your output bro, you can add power storage to help it (cap, better battery) but thats more work on the alt to charge them, once you drain those your alt is like...i ran through alll that shyt and ended up with an alt but now i sold the system for go fast parts
get an alt you will thank me and with the HIDS they will dim less with HIDS because they draw ALOT less current than halogen bulbs....so you'll be fine still get an alt...you dont wanna over draw your entire car of voltage its just asking for electrical issues...

I've heard of isolating your amp's from your main system...think there are 2 ways
Mechanically PITA - Electrically simple - second alternator / battery wiring
Mechanically simple - slightly harder electronics - upgrade the alternator and isolate your amp to its own circuit and battery and limit how much it can draw off the main circuit through some means
Spent a few min trying to find a resource for the Single alternator / amp + second battery isolation circuit type system and couldn't find any resources. No personal experience but thought id heard of something like that.
they make a 200A and 250A i think
An Optima will survive auto-audio abuse better than a lead battery, but doesn't stop flicker or really discharge faster. A 1 farad stiffy cap will provide momentary bursts of increased current, and should fix it if just running one amp that is fused at 50 amps or less. The cap isn't going to help for more than a few minutes if the battery is half dead because the alternator can't replace the current the amp is drawing, from say a longer cruise. Same for a 2nd battery. The only real answer is entering the scary, expensive world of custom alternators, dual alts, smaller pulleys... ugh just get the cap, and keep the leads Short, less than 14-16 inches.
