Well, I'm a sucker for anything Bose. When I found out that it was available in some GPs, I had to have it.
    Now for the ? part.
Will a Bose system mount up, with minor modification, to my 97 coupe?
    Signatures suck!

If your getting the Bose system that was designed for the grand Prix, it should work, however you are going to need all the harness' that go along with it, as well as the amp thats in the trunk.

i have it in my car. it sounds really good, however sounds good and loud are not the same thing. the stock amp is only something stupid like 70 watts and the speakers only have 1 ohm going to them..mine does not phase out or anything though, it sounds fantastic, just lacks volume.

I love my music loud, and I never knew how lacking the volume was on a Bose system until I bought the 2000 Daytona GTP for Sheryl. My 2001 GTP received two 10" Alpine Type R's hooked up to a 400 watt Rockford Fosgate amp as soon as I bought it, and been driving with that for the last 5 years. It has great sound quality and quantity. Hits about 126db on the meter.

You guys are insane. My ears are ringing sometimes when I get out of the GTP and have had the music up a bit for an extended period of time.

For the time and money you would be better off with an aftermarket radio. Getting the harnesses and rerunning the wires would be a pita.

Nothing is as good as Bose in my opinion. My speakers hit just as hard as some people's aftermarket subs. Not to mention it sounds a hell of alot better.

Bose was good years ago when people were looking for good sound, since then they really havn't developed better than the competition, for me they are overpriced and overhyped, I've heard some good systems and Bose was never one of the better one's to me.

I'll be taking out my Bose Headunit also here shortly...

being in the professional audio business which bose does most of their business in I don't think that bose is that great of a company they're main focus is on consumer electronics such as their noise canceling headphones and cd players...the technology in their car stereos hasn't really changed through the years where as aftermarket companies are more focused on car audio and have changed with time to become better....

so over all my opinion is that for the time and money you would spend switching over to the bose system you would be better off going out and buying a brand new aftermarket system

I just got to tearing my Bose out... let me tell you, you will need a lot to do the switch...

Every speaker has a specific Bose plastic bracket, you will need the amp and the harness that goes all the way to the front of the vehicle. You will also need the 6 speakers and tweeters, the harness from the speakers to the tweeters in the front. Then you need the Bose headunit and wire the harness from the amp up. It sucks taking it out just as much as it would putting it in I bet...

Putting things in are actually most of the time worse tan taking it out, so if it sucks going out, it is defenitely going to suck going in.

Bose is a good factory system. Nothing more.
I had it in my 2k gtp w/ 8spkr system yes sounded great for stock.
But most aftermarket units and speakers will blow it out of the water.
And the reason the bose system does not go loud iis because it cuts volume to scale down on distortion which is the #1 reason people blow speakers

I love my Bose too. I've never really been a radio buff though, music isn't my thing I guess. Most everyone I know is into aftermarket radio stuff, it never did anything for me though.

I have the factory AM/FM, Cassette, 7-Band EQ, BOSE, and a 12 disc CD changer in the truck. Its more than enough for me.

My biggest thing with bose is the cost. They charge way way way too much money for there speakers.

Example LifeStyle system Goes for 2k-3k. The speakers that bose uses you can buy for under a $20 bill.

For the same 2-3k you can build a system that will destroy the bose system, Rock the house and rival some real theater sound systems as far as clarity, and still have some money left over.

It took bose since the 80's to get there name a name brand and it worked everyone knows it and bose will charge for it.

Again if your not in to going aftermarket then yes bose is great you already got an upgrade from factory.

    Better profits from marketing

and the lifestyle system sounds like crap to start off with, no bass. The car systems tend to lack alot in sound also (most of the basic systems sound better to most people when they do a back to back comparo) people buy bose because they see a name and think it means better, even when it doesn't
