The monsoon was available back then. It was either Stock Delco stuff or Bose. And if you didnt have the Bose setup, then you dont have an amp other than for the tiny amp in the HU itself, which is nothing to speak of other than to power the unit and get enough current to the speakers. Nothing more.
The only way you can truly tell if you have a Bose system is to look in the trunk and see if you have one these attached to the bottom of the rear decklid.
If that is not there? Then you do not have an amp in your GP.
I hope that helps to clear things up for ya?
well i just went and looked, no amp in the trunk but i heard that there was one on the passenger side dash behnd the glove box, i dropped the glove box down and saw a gray amp shaped box with wires going into it, couldnt get that good of a look due to location but it could be an amp?
alright i found a factory delco amp behind my glove box, is there anyway to check to see if its bad? and how hard would it be to replace it with an aftermarket amp? prolly more trouble than its worth i expect but just curious if anyone has done this, it has one connector with a bunch of wires coming into it heres some pics
Thats interesting, never knew that one
Lots of people have put inline adapters on their rear speakers to add Bass Amps to go with their stock setup, or you can if you are gonna go the aftermarket headunit route, you can add amps for the speakers and a bass amp as well.
Its fairly easy, you just need to run a 4ga power wire from the battery to the trunk to your amps and then run new speaker wiring to the speaker locations in your car, ie the Doors and rear deck and then hook up the amps via RCA cables to the HU, you will bypass any factory installed amp at this point. So it won't matter if that amp is bad.
I hope that helps more? (More so than my last post )
im not really interested in running subs or an aftermarket HU but i ordered some new 5 1/4 door speakers and new 6x9s for the rear so i just want to add a small amp to power those, theres so many wires going into this amp im not sure what they are all for? lol will i lose anything by not having it in there?
sorry to revive an old thread but i have the system with this little amp and the thing sucks.. it can barely push any bass out at all. is there any way i could bypass this amp?
The little amp is for the 8 speaker premium, there were 3 sound options on the car. The standard 6 speaker set which was a set of 5 1/4 inch components up front and a set of 6x9's in the back. The premium speaker system which was 8 speakers the set of 5 1/4 components, a set of 6x9's, and a set of 4's in the back with a tiny amp behind the glove box. The last option was the bose system which was basically the premium system with the bose amp. The bose amp was also a for of equalizer for the system, it helped with the highs and lows and put out much more power. Im not sure about replacing the stock delco amp though. To bypass it you can just remove it entirely and run the wire directly just remember the stock stereo was really weak so without the amp u wont get much anyway.
Yea its a bit different on the bose system, on mine theres wires from the bose amp going to all the speakers, whether or not its actually amping the signals to all of the speakers i dont know but i know all the speaker lines are run though it because i can match all the wires to each speaker, but the bose amp is bs so im removing the stock system entirely
did you ever figure out the wiring codes for that amp? im trying to bypass mine in the glove box but still use the speaker wire and just connect them through that way instead of having to remove the entire dash to run speaker wire into the front doors.
How did you get to this amp? I'm having the same problems but can't find the amp. Mine only plays on hot days.
I know I am reviving this thread, but I have a question about that Bose amp in the trunk. I have a 02 Grand Prix GT with one in the trunk. The previous owner had cut the wires from the connector to the amp, and wired them together after installing an after market radio. I recently installed my factory one back in, and I wish the re hook up the bose amp, but the darn wiring has me all confused. The wires are not labeled on the harness that i can see, and i have the schematics, but I'm not sure where they go into the plug. Any help?
Hold tight. I just added the bose system to my car and have the entire pinout I pieced together and wrote down after trial and error. I'll try to post it later today or tomorrow.
this is what i have, i tried making the picture bigger, but there's a size limit.
