    Hi,

I've been lurking around this site for a bit and love the info.

I just bought a 97 Grand Prix GT for my son....

We also got a pair of sub woofers and an amp...

This past weekend we went to install the amp and subs, took out the factory Delco deck only to find no RCA pre amp outs on the back.

So I've been trying to do a little research and have read that maybe there is a pre amp out in the trunk somewhere.

    So now my questions;

Is there a pre amp out in the trunk?

If not, any other options or do I have to get an aftermarket deck?

If I get an aftermarket deck is there a wired (not IR) steering wheel control interface to keep the controls on the wheel?

    Thanks for your help!

yea i went to a local place here. They gave me a converter and all i did was splice into my rear speaker. but if you want your son to have a bit better sound and boom... i would go with an aftermarket deck... only thing that suck is you cant use your steering wheel controls... but he'll get use to it

    Thanks.

    Is the difference very noticeable?

And is there no aftermarket adapter that will work?

    PAC SWI-X
    Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface

the aftermarket deck has to use a remote control for this to work its about $80.

    Thanks!

That one is IR isn't it?

I have read mixed reviews on the IR so I was looking for something hard wired or RF.

    Is there such a beast?

about the lack of steering wheel buttons..

is everyone just leaving them there? or turning them into something else? ive got an aftermarket deck and want to use thoes buttons for something, but forking out $80 just to be able to use the vol buttons when i have a remote doesnt seem logical. (the other buttons were for tape deck it didnt have a CD player)
