I have a 01 grand prix gt 3.8 with a aftermarket system i was wondering if it would be possible to remove the headunit and convert that into a double din space for a gps receiver.

It's already a double din. So you should be able to stick any double din unit in there.
I thought the 97-03 was only a 1&1/2 din?
idk for somereason i remember reading it somewhere could be wrong idk. but yea what you said a little custom work an anything can happen
Not really it is really a 1&1/2. I have already put a couple in the gp's. You have to trim the dash under the center vents and below the radio opening. About 1/4 inch on both. I just got finished with a pioneer double din navi in my friends gp. It looks sweet I will get pics up asap.
thats what i thought. thanks for clarifying david.
no problem. I did car audio for almost ten years. Ive had to put a lot of double dins were they dont be long. Every body loves them.
haha understandable. ive been doin installs for about 4 years now for friends and family but dont do too much w/ that kinda stuff makin if fit where it shouldnt yet
I posted some links in this thread.

Looks good, if I did this should I pick up the stock NAV from an 04-08 or would I be better off with an aftermarket?
