Hey guys when i got this car i knew thr it was stolen and later found out it had wiring issues. I recently changed the ignition cylinder since it was broken and worked with no key, i was thinking that would solve the problem of thw radio staying on after its shut off and key is out but it didnt smh. I checked all fuses and none are blown but it looks like some wires have been bridged in the interior fuse box ans i have no idea what goes to what and in changing the ignition cylinder i found what appears to be the ignition lock soleniod hanging near the steering column still connected too so i didnt know of thats a problem. Would anyone know as to where i could start figuring out what could be the main reason these problems are occuring? Any advice helps thanks!

radio staying on could be a bad ignition harness. the shift lock thing is what keeps the key from turning to off fully, like you can turn the car off, but not turn the key all the way back to remove the key.

being it was stolen the black security ring might be busted, or bypassed.

heres a harness how to, names the parts better then i am im sure. http://sparkys-answers.com/2009/09/2...-changing.html

yeah i was thinking it was hot wired, i just didnt want to come to reality of it because i dont know if something hacked like that can be fixed? ive never had a hot wired car so i dont know where to start to fit it smh. okay scottydoggs would the ignition harness come with a new ignition switch or would i just look for a harness and is it difficult to do a repair like this? and what is a black security ring? is it on the ignition somewhere? thanks for the help guys!

not knowing your year, double check your search for the right year. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/se...rix&vi=1359345

thats the harness. the black box is the part that turns and starts the engine, the switch is the key and tumbler on the far right there if you need that too. but then theres the security issue of a new key. once again we dont know the year, the keys change over the years and what one makes a difference.

okay its a 1998 grand prix gtp 2 door, and is this the harness only or switch and harnass? also the metal housing that the ignition tumbler goes in to looks like they pried with a screwdriver and one of the two little pins on the outer ring that the tumbler butts up to is stuck in and i dont know if that would affect anything or if its just asthetics and the main priority would be the harnass? i dont know if imentioned where the wires are bridged into those fuses in the fuse box thats the fuse box located in the glove box. thanks for the help man much is appreciated!

if the hole the lock tumbler goes in is trashed, you might be best to get a whole column, with its key and all . then install it. its a junk yard part new would be over priced.

No its just the metal ring on the outside is scarred from a screwdriver or something smh. Upon further going through the interior and taking dash parts apart ive found that the white wire is tied into a yellow small wire in the radio and that the red wire goes theough the interior floor part near the sill and that the orange wire is bridged with a 3 amp fuse in the middle and the other bare end of the wire is hooked up to nothing smh. Ill upload pics for a better visual description. The ignition harnass appears to be untouched but there was a connector with a green n black wire on it and idk where it would hook up and in the pics they had a huge tan colored harness connector wrapped in black goo hanging behind the radio and have no idea what that goes to lol smh. Theres a little update on the findings lol any advice to what is what or goes where would be appreciated thanks!

what we do know is that the radio staying on is a common thing kinda. usually goes hand and hand with a bad ignition harness. also fan speed for the heater might not work right, or the parking lights may not work either.

you need to host off site, then link em here, pc to site up load sucks here.

and used is ok. why not. if you can get the key lock and security ring snag all that too

The ignition harness used or from a junkyard is a gamble in my opinion, the harness is known to be the cause of a few problems in these cars. Its a 75 dollar amazon part. https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-D1491.../dp/B000C9SNF8 about 85-140 at a local parts store.

Takes about 2 hours start to finish if you take your time. If you have anything aftermarket tied to the harness (alarm/remote start) That will need to be addressed as well.

okay thanks man ill definitly get a new then! and i ended up figuring out they just cut the yellow wire in the radio and used a scrap white to tie it in the fuse box, i undid that and it dosent stay on anymore. and they tied into the sunroof wiring to tap into the fuse box for ther others and i indid hem and it didnt affect anything but i am missing modules for the sunroof smh. but i did want to ask something, there was alot of fuses in different areas where the amps were stronger or weaker than what was called for, but everytime i put the 25amp fuse for the windshield wipers it comes on and stays on even when the switch is off, i was wondering if thats a common problem as well or it could be the switch or motor causing that problem? thanks for all the help figuring this out guys!

you might be best to go dig into a jy car, look over how its wired up, then take its harness's that are butchered in your car. be best if you can find the same year. 97-98 should be close tho.
