From what year dust though automobile hail? I am assuming 97-03?

Either of those should work, just get the one that works with your aftermarket head unit.
Idk if you have searched but this was the first harness adapter I found that says it works with a 2006 base, http://www.amazon.com/Metra-LC-GMRC-.../dp/B001XOBU4C you will still need the antenea adapter and the steering wheel control adapter.

From the sounds of things he has a base model gp, so no bells and whistles, so he has no need for the GMOS-01.
