So I have the factory Bose system in my car. I want to get some better sound out of it. I want to keep the speakers looking original and my steeming wheel controls funtional.

Would the deck be a good place to start? Or replacing the speakers?

Mostly just looking for fuller and louder bass. I don't want a woofer enclosure.

99 GTP 4dr CAI, ported TB, front and rear plog, 3"OR DP, 2.5" SLP catback, EGR del.

you could get a new head unit Vet posted a nice sony. and get a lil 8 in a small box for fuller base and smaller subs have better base response for faster bass like rock and techno(which im sure is your favorite). But you could mount amp right to the box to keep it all tight and consolidated.

thread with the head unit http://www.grandprixforums.net/threa...-Be-Disappoint

that deck could prolly run doors and package tray speakers with careless ease

    Good luck

Most headunits now have the option for keeping steeringwheel controls it just costs extra for an adapter ~ $50
I like kenwood head units because they typically put out the most RMS without having to get another amp.
Not sure what the factory Bose speaker sizes are but you can probably do a little fabricating (behind the grills) to fit some good aftermarket speakers in while keeping the factory grill look. if you replace the speakers you almost certainly should get a sub, most aftermarket speaker manufacturers assume you will add a sub (for the decent level speakers).
IMO alpine Type S Speakers are the best bang for you buck sound wise, a full set is about 120 on ebay for front components and coax rears.

My stock HU is starting to skip badly when going over bumps. Rather than buy a used HU from Morad, I am considering an aftermarket unit that I can pair with my phone.

Have always been a Pioneer fan.

And the steering wheel adapter: http://www.amazon.com/PAC-SWI-X-Univ...ords=PAC+SWI-X

Are these compatible with my 01 GTP? Any other hardware I would need?

the head unit will but you will need to buy the adapter that marries the factory to the head unit. some parts stores and all car audio stores have them for about 10 bucks.

the steering control tho you need to punch in the year make and model be for you order to make sure its compatible. the head unit should have a steering control wire aswell
