So, like, my seat heater works every now and then- the fuse is OK, the switch lights up in both low and high positions and I'm thinking the wiring/ element are toast.

Car has leather seats, what is there to skinning them other than hog ring pliers?

I'd like to just throw a new element in since it doesn't get hot enough for me anymore- is there a recommended source for the parts, etc?

TIA, I need to get a few niggling little bugs out of the car before winter and this is high on my list since I love heated seats

That's nice, but I'm looking to fix these, not replace them.

Ohm out the heaters and then sit and push around and see if the readings change, but if you have to replace them, you are going to have to undo them for sure. I would have to guess they use hog rings I have gotten away with just using slip joint pliers in the past to clam them in.

    Thanks Jeff,

Smart of me to wait until it's cold out to start planning this fix, right?

My 04 wasn't originally equipped with heated seats (I added them last year), though all the wiring's there and powered (I triple-checked Saturday)... and yet it won't switch on, so Thursday I've got a date with a Tech2 to flash the KA1 into the BCM! Anything I should be aware of first?

I have no idea, I figured if I added them I would control them.

This is what I miss about my Subarus, you could get all the optional equipment at a discount from online vendors and put them in easy with no body control module stuff. Wiring all there, just plug and play.

The tech who was supposed to perform a simple RPO toggle-on, backed out at the last instant, claiming he didn't have the software for the job; I'm sorry, but my understanding (as of now) is that all that's needed is a Tech2 tool that reads and programs OBD II... as long as it can access the BCM, it can switch on the bloody toggle! Now I've been buzzing around town, back to Square One looking for someone who'll even bother!

I've always had the best luck slipping a tech a few bucks to come outside and take care of it for me on their lunch break. Good luck, hope someone helps you out.
