Well i swapped the head unit everything fine and I have no sound at all. I have a 00 with the Bose audio system. I'm assuming it's because I don't have the smaller harness connected. I tried with the old one without as well and no sound either. Is there a proper way of getting this to work without having to buy a harness? Or do I have to wait till after the holidays to do it right? I want the amp to still work correctly with the new unit. Any ideas?

You answered your own question. You need the proper harness.

With the Bose system in these cars, there is the 4 wire harness that unplugs out of the back of the stock radio but doesn't plug into the harness adapter. In this harness is a pink wire, connect the power turn on lead from the aftermarket head unit to the pink wire.

Slick is 100% right i had the same problem. Connect the pink wire from the small harness to the amp turn on lead from the head unit, usually blue.

Awesome got it running now! Any idea what those other three wires in the second harness do? And can I program the auto shut off?

The one where the radio stays on after the engine is turned off. The radio can support it but not sure how to get it to work.

That is part of the programming in the car, RAP, or retained accessory power. If you have the radio wired up correctly it should stay on after the car is shut off, until you open a door or about 10 minutes, which ever comes first.
