Im slowly building my stereo in the GTP, I want to get an idea of the sub I want, so that as the sales come around I can snatch one if there is a super good deal.

Ive had a few brands of subs since I started driving but my tastes have changed.

I have a 2002 GTP. Kenwood headunit with sub level control, looking at an amp between 5-600w rms.
In the past I have had a Kicker CVR, comp12, and two MTX subs.

I am looking for something with good sound quality, that compliments the music.
I do want to be able to rattle the car from time to time though.

Budget is about 200-250 for the sub(s)

anyone know if you can fit a 15?

How much space you want. Sealed- smaller box. Ported- larger box

In the Spyder , in super restricted for space. I run a single basic kicker 12" in a just big enough ported box with an 800w amp
that paired with a complete jl audio 4 channel amp , components and coaxials, it's amazingly clear and tight , even with the top down.

So while one is a banger , the other is more like a concert

I definitely want a concert, bought a set of these on sale for 70$ and the matching 6x9s, I know they aren't the best but not bad.
Im also looking at possible using some entry JL audio subs.

The jl subs cost more then what they actually do.
For the components, it's worth the extra money.
a simple 12" kicker vr http://www.amazon.com/Kicker-CompVR-.../dp/B000N8MW8C bridged down to 2ohm with a decent amp : ported box - and then a 4 Chanel amp and component set for the fronts = win

It's very basic. And it works
If you want to rock your seats out of the car , you need more than a amp subs and a box.

i would go for a single sub set up... i ran a 15" icon ported for bout 2 years, just changed to 2 10" sundown SA's. the 2 10's are lil louder due to the fact i have more port area with them.
just make sure you get a custom box by some one who KNOWS what there doing!!

I have been pretty happy with the Image Dynamics in my Old DD. They sound better than the JL's they replaced. They are not the SQ line, but the basic ID line and have impressed me. In my GXP I read up a ton and ended up with an Infinity Kappa. It does not require a ton of power to run. I believe I have a 500W Alpine amp running it. It can hit hard, but the sound is very good and has impressed me. The bang for the buck certainly is there. I am sure there are better subs, but they will likely cost more.

With the back seat up, the quality of sound is muffled. I have been toying with cutting a hole in the middle of the package tray and having it fire directly into the cabin. I haven't really done much of any planning though so I can't help much there.

Sundown audio or GTFO, Boxes need to be built to specs needed by said sub so any box you buy off ebay or like company is a "prefab" Just garbage.

a single 15" in a ported enclosure will rock and you will only need a net internal volume of 3cu/ft. I have run the gamut of subs and for small spaces it's hard to beat a single 15" or a pair of 10's ported of course with a 30 Hz tuning frequency. Crossover at 50-80Hz.
