Has anyone ever noticed that the steering wheel doesn't lock when you shut the car off... Does everyones car do that or am I just nuts.....![]()

try turning it.
If you turn it like ^^ guy said...it'll lock.
Mine doesn't lock either. I can sit there and turn the wheels from left to right all day with the car off, and it doesn't lock. I thought maybe I was the only one. Maybe it's an 04+ thing?
is the key out of the cylinder?
Yep. Key out, car off (obviously). It's done it for the 2 years I've owned it. Kinda figured it was normal for this car, although I know every car for many years now the steering wheel locks when the car is off.
My 04 GT2 locks...
This could be something to look into. Was this an option on some cars?
It must be pretty common on some make and models of cars because after I posted this I was talking to a guy I work with who has a 2007 jeep grand Cherokee and the ignition is on the dash (like our cars) and his steering wheel does not lock either. I just don't understand why, I mean what's the point ....
well when you have the ignition switch in the column it is easy to make the wheel lock with just a simple lever that makes it lock. with it on the dash it would be harder, more complicated, prone to problems, and more expensive(main reason) to lock the wheel and honestly you dont need it to.the one thing i hate about working on a car is when the damn wheel gets locked when im under it.
my 03 gmc truck, the wheel didn't lock either. i asked a bunch of friends if their wheels locked, ( they had gm trucks from 99 to 05 at the time) and every one of them said theirs locked, to only be called back to be told, no it don't lock, seems like gm is letting it go to some point.
