It's time for new lifters and probably needs the pistons re-ringed.

I got an extended warranty when I bought the car, and it's in the shop now. they are saying the harmonic balancer is delaminating and that's the cause of the puffs of smoke. I'm not sure if I believe that, but my extended warranty is covering it and an ac compressor, and a couple engine mounts, so I can't complain too much.

I'm pretty sure they are wrong on the diagnoses because when I turned off the dod I had no puffs of smoke, so when it does it again I'll take it back to them for them to fix it right.
