Okay well where to begin, im new to the forums as of today so go easy. First off, ive always been having problems with my 97 Grand Prix GTP, (of course the 1st year of GTPs it is having issues) but I have done many things to it. New CAI, 3.4" pulley, new belts, new tstat, headers, full exhaust with cam delete, new o2s, struts, new radiator fresh dex cool, and plenty more. Recently, ive been having the stalling issues while coming to stop signs, poor/rough idle, fluctuating idle in park, up and down and almost stalling, very hard starts in morning such as firing up then stalling and dying 2-3 times unless you keep it at 1000 rpms to warm up, also sluggish throttle response, jerking randomly like rough shifts, after doing much research i decided to clean the throttle body, put in a new IAC, as well as Tps.

After putting in the new Throttle position sensor (watched youtube video of correct installation) , the car freaked out. Driving barely possible, coughing and sputtering, acting like its not getting enough fuel, wont shift past 2nd, maybe even in limp mode. I am so stumped, i put the old one back in and tried it, still the same, unplugged the sensor and drove it, even worse.. my buddy came over with the OBD2 scanner, threw codes for Tps voltage low, as well as a po102 twice, which is MAF code. And the code p1655 for evap purge solenoid. Unfortunatley did not have the scanner before i put on the new tps so i dont know if it had that code before or after i installed the new part. Also tried disconnecting negative for 12 hours to reset Ecu (thinking just maybe it was sending old signals to new part, like i said about out of ideas)

Turned off the car, the tps code went away but still have MAF code and the evap. While cleaning the throttle body, i noticed the MAF is in pretty bad shape, it has a big dent in the screen and the fins are bent up blocking off air. I knew this before i did the Tps and was planning on finding a new screen, nobody sells them at stores or online so junkyard for that.

What i dont understand is how changing that one part, the tps, the car decided to freak out and possibly even went into limp or fail safe mode. if it is MAF related since it has the code, why would it just start doing this if the screen has been bad for a while now? My dad took a look, drive and listen. We held on the brake and gave it gas until it started sputtering in drive at about 2k rmps, and he listened to the motor. I dont know what he heard, but said two of his cars have randomly done this before to him as well as the driving problems, and said ignition coil or module and doesnt think it is getting the right spark to the fuel. Im stumped and dont want to part dart this anymore.

If anybody has any input or advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Also! I have looked over so many forums, up till 3am searching for anyone with similar issues but cant find ANYTHING, so puzzled and stumped

check fuse # 21 iirc marked ing. (under hoof fuse box) that fuse powers the maf and o2 sensor. if the fuse is blown you get the 102 code. or the pig tail to the maf is shot. cracks, bare wire showing. or the maf can also be bad. that screen being beat up is not causing the code. the screen is not part of the maf at all. it is there to smooth the air flow past the maf. low voltage is low voltage.

no idea on the tps. make sure its in the right way.

sounds like you may also have a vac leak.

if you still got that scanner clear the codes see what comes back, no scanner, unhook the battery for 30 minutes, that will rest the pcm and clear the codes.

real simple.. tps and maf together will kick your butt. One alone..and you can probably limp along. Unplug the maf and figure out the tps. Likely it's a pissed off wire as Scott has probably already said..but I didn't read what he wrote. Instead...I sipped a beer
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I'll have to check that fuse. I checked all the wires in the harness, none of them are cracked or have wire showing but you can tell there old and original. Also, the tps was put in right I believe because it is spring loaded as you line up to screw holes. I still dont know how changing that part caused it to barely be driveable, possibly in limp, or if the MAF decided it would mess up that time i turned the key. Deciding to take it to a shop in the morning for a full diagnosis and checkover..

It sounds like you maf was already hosed. If the pcm can't get good info from the maf or tps.. it's gonna be a rough ride for sure.
