Hello was wondering if someone could help!!
I was installing a slp roller rocker kit yesterday that I purchased a while ago off of a member, and while I was tightening down the rockers I realized they had a lot of lash (very loose) It was way too loose for me to comfortably put back together like that. The only thing I can think is maybe the push rods are not long enough, but at the same time don't see how that's possible bc the kit should have the correct size push rods. The push rods are roughly a quarter inch longer than the stock ones, which does seem to be about the proper length so I dont know if maybe Im doing something wrong installing these or what is going on with it. If any of you have any ideas or advice that would be greatly appreciated.

lifters lost pressure, it will sound like crap when first fired up, let it idle for a while they will stop clapping. same thing happened when i put rockers on my car. all tq'ed down, yet they move up and down a little bit.

Yah. Same here. I posted a video of it. I never would have 2nd guessed myself if I didn't have any variables ex custom heads and valves.

Mine was opposite.I put in new lifters and when I tightened them my valves opened when they should of been shut. Nervous for the first few minutes after I started it, bit it did get quiet and has been since.

I did not know that so I put the stock ones back on, which were tight when I put them back on, would the stock rockers still be tight if the lifters collapsed? I'm not sure bc I never fired it up with the slp rockers bc of how loose it was and not knowing.

this is how the rockers went on my new set up. lifters still had pressure pushed the valves open. you can just turn the engine so each piston it tdc then tq em if you like. what i did this time cause its easy with the engine out of the car.

you can see how they are all up and down in this pic. only two were not tight this time around installing them.

i made a phone call. was told to fire it up and enjoy. sucks you took em back off, better safe than sorry i guess.

mine are 1.95 rockers, so i had a washer for a shim under the pedestal and longer push rods. had the play got nervous for sure. all worked out fine tho. both times.

SLP and Yella Terra are pretty much identical

    http://intense-racing.com/Merchant2/..._Code=3800_HCV

theyshould have come with the longer rods.
My Harland Sharp 1.9s had longer rods as well

the 1.9 MODIFIED stock rockers didn't need them

Not to prove Bob wrong on the Harlands..but I've yet to see a set of Harlands come with different length rods.

I've only had something like 10 sets..
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

No Bill you're correct - but it was OR rods that came with them (at least for me unless Intense told me to buy them on tb side) So 2 out of 3 had the longer rods or at least sold that way from the vendors.
    Its been soo long lmao

Should you buy longer rods for them anyway?

No. I checked. My HS had oil restricted rods.
The Yella terra are sold with longer rods as per the vendor site.
I also heard the SLP are identical as the Yella terras. So I would think they need longer rods as well

Sorry to hijack this thread, but does that mean the HS still need aftermarket push rods? Or are factory ones Oil Restricted?

No. OR rods are aftermarket. You use them to the keep the lifters "pumped up" at the higher RPMs you would be at when adjusting your tune for high ratio rockers

So it would be recommended to get some at least? Unlikely that I'll raise my shift points though.

Well it's my understanding the higher ratio rockers benefit from higher shift points

In the department of useless info... us carb-era dudes would remove an intake manifold to do the most precise lifter preload adjustments, or visually confirm lifter condition during valvetrain setup. Lets you see or measure how far the plunger is down inside the lifter body. Non-adjustable valvetrain is kinda scary to me especially if I can't see the lifters.

Yes very much so, they actually provide the best performance at a certain rpm range. Same goes with a cam.
