I have the scanner, now what's the right way to scan? Wide open throttle? Idle? Not exactly sure.

Knock is normally only to show itself when you are way into the throttle, you shouldnt ever really see it at idle unless it's broke lol.

You may see it at random times while cruising on the freeway in like 4th with a high load situation, like going up a long hill and it might show a blip or two. But thats nothing to worry about.

So when I was into the throttle, I noticed that the knock was up to 5* in 3rd gear at about 3 - 4000 RMP, then when I hit 5 it went to 0.

    Happens.

I'd just assume it's stock and they always have some knock retard.

Yes sir. I'll be throwing the headers on this winter and if I have the money I'll be getting a full stack intercooler.
