Hey guys. So the other day we put new heads on a 2006 grand prix supercharged that was overheated. Afterwards I noticed that there is a lot of pressure in the upper radiator hose. The car doesn't overheat but the amount of pressure in that upper hose just seems excessive to me. Is it normal for these cars or can I have another issue going on? Can the supercharger cause this? I'm just afraid of the pressure cracking something else in the cooling system.

Have you checked the pressure cap?

Well, they're supposed to go to like 14PSI or so...which will make that hose seem pretty stiff.

Somewhat. The cap is new also. If I start the car without the coolant cap on after about 10 minutes it will build pressure and geiser out of the radiator. I've seen this a lot with northstar engines but those actually will overheat and go into the red. This car isn't doing that.Originally Posted by luckyg817

Sounds like you might have air in the cooling system. Did you bleed it when you filled it up?

Yes, there's no air. I'm starting to think that the block may have been warped when it overheated.

rad hoses get hard when the system is hot and full. if its not over heating, or coming close to over heating, id let it go for a few days, check the coolant every morning.
you can also pressure test the cooling system with a rented tool. but if you not loosing coolant, id think its fine.
if the block warped you'd have leaks, inside or outside the block.

if you used MLS gaskets for the head job. did you grind off the rivets and blow out all the pieces of paper/crap that collects between the layers?
had a similar car...piece of cardboard in between the layers was allowing combustion gasses into the radiator. a co2 tester confirmed and teardown revealed the cardboard.
