I was told by the person who will be tuning my car that L76 springs can not handle the lift that a VS cam calls for? Opinions?...

I would go with ls6 or 105s and save the l76 to the rocker'd cars. IIRC that's what is generally recommended.

I've got 35,000 miles on l76 springs with .531 lift, more than a VS. Shift points at 6200 rev limiter at 6300. They are only rated to .520 but they were nowhere near bind at .520 when I measured them. There are some guys talking about using ls3 springs as a upgrade for stock l76 engines. Might be something to look into also. I wouldn't bother with aftermarket springs if you can get stock GM springs that will work just as good for $40 for springs and retainers

IMO L76 springs work great with the VS cam.

L76 springs, L76/LSx GM retainers, stock timing chain and tensioner and a VS cam, great combo.

They're 90# seat pressure and good for .525 lift. They'll not as stiff at full open as the LS3/LS6 springs (but about the same as the 105s) so they'll be a little easier on the timing chain and tensioner. The LS3/6s though will work very well as well.

Waiting on someone to chime in about phantom valve float...

I have floated mine, I bumped the limiter up to 6500 at the dragstrip when my car wouldn't get off the revlimiter on the 1-2 shift. It wasn't happy about it

You can't know you floated the valves if you know you hit the programmed rev limiter.

no i bumped the limiter up from 6200 to 6500 so the car would shift from 1-2 without bumping into it and because I didnt want to lower the shift point. Either which way it wouldnt make it all the way to 6500 though, it would float and break up and lose power then shift, somewhere between 6200-6500

Maybe kr or some unforeseen tuning since you didn't run to that rpm before?

I ran L76 springs and LS1 retainers for years on 1.95 yella terra rockers, even for awhile when turbo'd.. The YT rockers gave me ~.515 lift and all was well. If you put them in a vice and measure coil bind, you'll see the "listed" coil bind and max lift specs are very conservative. When measured compared to a yellow LS6 spring, they weren't drastically different at coil bind.

So l76 springs with ls style retainers (not modified) and a vs cam are not a bad idea? Some people on here are saying that it is a bad choice!! ZZP sold me 1.9 modifieds for a l32 and I hit 9 of the 12 pushrods off the head casting due to them not working with the l32s (not listed on zzps site). Im going to return them but I already have ordered the springs and retainers. I don't want to have to return stuff because of shipping costs and down time. If I can safely get away with a VS cam, new stock timing chain and dampener then id rather do that to save $. Im looking for reliability in a DD. If I have to buy new stuff I will and im not saying anyone is wrong just trying to get as much info as possible before I spend more $ that I shouldn't have had to in the first place.
