I have posted many times over the past hour or so, I know - but they are all different topics related to the engine, so I put them in separate posts.

While rebuilding my engine, I discovered that one of the knock sensors was severed from the harness. Are these sensors vital to performance (does the PCM need them to run), or are they simply to measure knock?

You need to wire that back up. Def. needed. If you remove the sensor from the block to repair this issue, the sensors need to be torqued to 14ft/lb upon reinstall.

You can replace just the little harness that runs up to the sensor if that's what's broken. Easy peasy.
