Re: cranks no start
billl the plugs were wet... and i figured it to be the cam sensor.. brought a new one it was a dud.. got a replacement and got spark... nowww im being told the car has no compression in number 5 and 3.... i dont see how... the dam pistons moving and has no chips or anything... they say its at 0 and not even trying to climb... im stumped yet again

Re: cranks no start
if its been sitting a long time a valve seat maybe gunked up.
a shot of sea foam may clear it up if it dont clear up on its own.
-
Re: cranks no start
didnt think about that.. ill pour some in the oil and turn the car over
-
Re: cranks no start
not the oil, god no!!! dont do that.
suck it up a vac line while its idling, then shut it off and wait 20 minutes, then fure it back up and let it smoke.

Re: cranks no start
oh damn, you said it had spark i figured it fired up.
-
Re: cranks no start
it has spark now.. the plugs were wet before spark so it has gas.. still no fire... i had the dots lined up and the #1 tdc you think its outta timing?
-
Re: cranks no start
on the timing chain? that sounds right.
dry the plugs up, crank the engine over with no plugs to blow out any left over fuel, and then see if it will fire up. even if 2 cylinders are low on compression it should fire up, run poorly but run.
-
Re: cranks no start
hell on the block i just pulled it it had a chip piston in number 1 number 3 read 120 compression and number 5 was at 90 and car still ran strong.. so i dont know..
-
Re: cranks no start
im thinking i should pull timing cover off and see how things are lining up... what exactly should i do to reassure that its right
-
Re: cranks no start
Pulled case found it to be cracked to hell and timing dots not meeting so I adjusted cam and crank to meet as theyshould but ddidn't reassemble yet due to having to come to work
-
Re: cranks no start
well thats a start, good luck.

Re: cranks no start
how in the hell did you crack the cover like that? make the bolts to tight or something? seems odd its cracked on both sides like that.
and damn the other dot is no where in sight either.
-
Re: cranks no start
man i think i dropped the old blcok on it or something honestly lol.. the way that crack is.. no way over tightening the bolts did that.. majority of them not even in the same spot...as the bolts.. and yea the dots were no where meeting.. one would be at 6 oclock the other was at 4 or 330 lol
-
Re: cranks no start
lets hope a valve didnt meet a piston with the chain off by so much.
-
Re: cranks no start
i didnt hear any clanking or pinging.. i doubt it did with just turning over... but time will tell
-
Re: cranks no start
If the crank is on the correct rotation vs the cam and the dots line up you should be golden. If you got a new timing cover. Man I hate seeing busted castings. I've thrown timing chains at idle with a couple V8s and the first thing to bend was pushrods. I might be a little worried about the rest of that engine rebuild though, like bearing clearances and such. Like you said shawty, time will tell.

Re: cranks no start
now the dots are aligned they never met when i took this pic... and yea i got a few spares... i was rushing when i put it together...
