Lol... I bought this 2000 gtp a week ago and apparently he said the head gasket was bad! So I bought it for $1000 and figured it was a LIM gasket and to my surprise it was lol... but also could have had a bad head gasket as well! I didnt see any wet coolant in the cylinders but obviously there was in the oil! So I pulled the front head off (not the rear yet) to double check and to see if I had a chipped piston! I had pulled a blown up spark plug from cyl #3 and did not see a chipped piston (of course its dirtier than crap) but Im getting new ported heads and new gaskets but wanted to see what I should do while Im down in the heads and a good proper way to clean :/

brake cleaned is the go to cleaner, razor blades, then disks for air guns to clean up are nice too. if you got one.

did it run when you got it? no rod knocks or anything ugly sounding?

oil looks wet with coolant for sure. but typically the super charged engine wont leak coolant into the oil. thats the n/a engines dirty little trick.

Yes I fired her up when I got her and she did run really rough! But no KNOCKS lol... I was surprised as well... Exhuast had fell off, misfired like crazy (bad plugs im guessing) and the LIM would cause the 2 to mix? I guess the head gasket must be pretty bad in the rear then :/ havent took the rear out just yet! Its like -30 out here lol

that block just seems like a risk, 50/50 shot if it will last. not knowing how long it was driven like that.

as well as that smashed. or rusted out plug. that was a misfire for sure lol

If I have any luck at all what would be your best suggestion to care for this bottom end and make it last as long as I can til I can buy a new/use bottom end?

id look for a used engine just to be safe. you could find a used low miles n/a engine, then put your l67 heads and lim and blower on that block. they sell for like 300 most of the time.

its called a top swap, but in your case its a bottom swap cause its a gtp. http://www.grandprixforums.net/showthread.php?t=7763

it dont sound all that bad, no squealing or knocking.

flush the oil real good, dump a few quarts down the lifter valley and let it flow out the drain plug, take the filter off, let it drain well from the housing.

after you fire it up when done, with new cheap oil run it for maybe 5 minutes, then change the oil and filter again even if it looks ok on the dip stick. just to be safe.

Stop scaring the guy Scotty. Personally as soon as I found out it was LIM gaskets and did a quick leak down test to see if there was a head gasket issue I would have put it back together and run it. Just looks like it hadn't been run in ages.....everything under the valve cover looked like there was still oil and no rust in that area.
