My buddy and I were looking at a wrecked grand prix gt that has an L26 engine in it. The owner said the car hasn't moved in around 1-1.5 years since the accident. The car is sitting in a barn and was rear ended REALLY bad, but the engine and trans looks to be ok.
The owner said he pulled the plugs and sprayed fogging oil in each cylinder before he stored it away. Do you guys think the head gaskets/Lim/Main seals would still be good from not running that long? What are your feelings on possible rust inside the engine on the cylinder walls, ect? I would try to start it, but the fuel lines are pinched/cracked from being in the accident. Not to mention the tank doesn't have any gas/could be cracked from the accident.
My buddy and I might pick up the engine, but are a little concerned about it as we don't have the time to tear into it as we both work and are students as well. If we do decide to pick it up, we will install it during our winter break in the next couple weeks.
I have a spare L26 that we could always use in an emergency, but that engine I've got big plans for. []
