I heard you can just run synthetic oil in the snout as long as you change it every oil change. Any truth to this?

I wouldn't chance it. Just get the GM SC oil and change it once every 30,000 miles.

Speaking of that though, I wonder if mine has ever been changed? I plan on doing that as well as other tune up stuff once spring kicks in

Technically yes but won't last as long. For the $10 it cost go down to the GM dealer and grab some.

I know the stuff that was in mine was a little overdue for the change. It stank like hell. I have GM SC oil i just didn't want to put it in the car cuz I have no idea how long the car is gonna last but I suppose if I end up scraping it ill be taking the top swap off anyways.

It's only $10 in oil that you wasted if anything.

i call it the living in the NYC area curse. everything costs more here, at the dealer for sure.

only a few dealers carry it local, and that was the price. i was like its not 10 bucks? i think it cost almost 50 for the 2 bottles.

Damn 50 bucks! it's 12 dollars at the dealer here and I still said ordered it online just to save the 4 bucks. I'm a cheap ass tho. I also buy 90% of my replacement parts from the junkyard.

If I can get all the parts from the junkyard it'll be pretty cheap. Haha (Good luck with that right)

I don't mind spending money on something like that. I want to keep the car to at least 350k miles so I think it would be a good investment. The tranny has to be replaced eventually anyways.

Hope this isn't being done to your DD and that you have a spare vehicle.

I'll make sure to start a thread once I get all the parts together. I'm planning on going with an f23 instead of the 284 now so it should be interesting. Figuring out the axles is the only thing holding me up right now.

You can run 0w30 if you want. Change it every other oil change.

I have full syn 5w20 in mine because I was lazy and didnt want to hit up the dealer.
